At present, Tulum produces 200 tonnes a day of unseparated waste.
- Tulum is a 10 year old municipality without any Waste Management Plan.
- Tulum also lacks the trucks to collect the garbage as well as other types of infrastructure related to waste management.
- The hotels have been paying for the rudimentary system that currently exists and are thus subsidizing the whole municipality.
- Our plan will establish the exact steps that the citizens and government will need to follow in order to have a healthy waste system. Citizens and establishment will have to separate their garbage, reduce and ban some plastics, create compost plants, use technology to create fuel out of the non recyclable waste and increment from 1% to 20% the amount of waste being recycled.
